Young Engineers Reception

Wednesday, September 4, 2019 / 9:00 pm – 11:00 pm / The Terrace, YOTEL New York (570 10th Ave, New York, NY 10036)

Immediately following the welcome reception, space has been reserved on the Terrace of the YOTEL New York to allow for the group to continue to socialize and share experiences from the conference thus far. This event is hosted by the Young Engineers, but all are welcome and encouraged to attend. This event includes a cash bar.

Ice-Breaker Event

The NY Organizing committee and YE board invites all young engineers to participate in an ice breaking event that will take place during the Welcome

Reception. This event involves competition of last-standing small-scale structures under specified load, build by generic materials on spot. The teams shall be comprised of both young and experienced engineers to encourage interaction, collaboration and knowledge transfer.

Speed-Mentoring Event

The NY Organizing committee and YE board invites all young engineers to participate in speed-mentoring event. This event involves lightning rounds of one-to-one interaction, in which young engineers present their current professional interests and plans for future development to experienced engineers. With this, the young engineers will gain valuable advice how to enhance their presentation skills and shape their future career goals.

My Thesis/Project in 180 Seconds

Each participant will have three minutes to present his or her research, in plain language, to a non-specialist audience and a multidisciplinary jury. The challenge: Make your thesis/project topic easily understandable with the help of only one slide! This session is an opportunity to promote communication across research disciplines, in link with the topics of the IABSE symposium, and help young academics develop skills to effectively share their work with a broad audience. Prizes will be awarded to the top three presentations from each discipline.
